Nutanix + Dell PowerStore: Expanding Storage Choice for the Hybrid Cloud

In a strategic expansion of their infrastructure partnership, Dell and Nutanix have announced that Dell PowerStore, the company’s flagship enterprise-class all-flash storage array, will soon be supported as external storage within the Nutanix Cloud Platform. The integration, slated for early access in Spring 2026, combines Dell’s data reduction, cyber resilience, and scale-out capabilities with Nutanix’s intuitive, VM-centric cloud operating model. According to CRN, the move follows strong customer demand and builds on Dell’s six consecutive quarters of PowerStore growth, marking another milestone in the two companies’ commitment to customer choice and hybrid cloud flexibility.

As Nutanix notes, this marks a significant expansion in external storage choice and continues the strategic collaboration between the two vendors following support for Dell PowerFlex in 2024.

“We’re excited to share that PowerStore is coming to the Nutanix Cloud Platform,” Nutanix wrote in its announcement. “PowerStore will be available as a validated external storage platform for workloads running on Nutanix.”

What the Integration Brings: According to Dell’s official blog, the upcoming integration brings together the strengths of both platforms:

  • Simplified Management: Dell states that customers will “gain intelligent automation and streamlined operations through the combination of PowerStore’s leading management simplicity and the Nutanix Prism management console delivering VM-centric operations and automation.”
  • Operational Flexibility: The ability to deploy PowerStore with Nutanix will support independent scaling of compute and storage, enabling architectural flexibility for a broader range of use cases.
  • Data Services & Resilience: Dell emphasizes PowerStore’s built-in data protection, cyber recovery features, and efficient data reduction, with a 5:1 data reduction guarantee on reducible workloads. Combined with Nutanix’s own data services — such as disaster recovery, Flow virtual networking, and security policy integration — the result is a powerful foundation for hybrid infrastructure.

CRN: Channel and Industry Context: According to CRN, this move is a direct response to partner and customer feedback. After Dell and Nutanix jointly introduced PowerFlex support in late 2024, the channel immediately pushed for PowerStore to be next, given its popularity and momentum in the market.

“We heard it loud and clear,” Dell told CRN. “Customers wanted PowerStore next, and we’re delivering.”

CRN notes that Dell has seen six consecutive quarters of double-digit PowerStore growth, and this latest move will allow partners to position Dell’s best-selling storage platform alongside Nutanix’s cloud software in hybrid and multicloud deployments.

Strategic Roadmap: Dell’s blog emphasizes that PowerStore support is part of a broader strategy to bring disaggregated infrastructure options to enterprise customers. Additional initiatives mentioned include:

  • New XC Family systems powered by Dell PowerEdge, expected later this year
  • Deeper integration between Dell Private Cloud and Nutanix, with lifecycle automation
  • Continued innovation in bringing together compute, storage, and software-defined platforms

Summary: The convergence of PowerStore and Nutanix presents a powerful combination of performance, flexibility, and choice. As Nutanix expands its ecosystem and Dell reinforces its leadership in enterprise storage, customers benefit from architectures that align with their operational models — whether hyperconverged, disaggregated, or hybrid cloud.

With general availability expected in 2026, this partnership opens up new design possibilities for organizations seeking to optimize their infrastructure across performance, cost, and operational agility.
