NearSync DR-Protected Entities may Experience Recovery Failures

A rare defect in Autonomous NearSync with 1–15 minute RPO can leave extent groups on the target cluster with reduced data resiliency, potentially causing protected entity recovery to fail during a real disaster event. Both Protection Domain-based and Prism Central-based DR configurations are affected. Symptoms include: Prism Element displays an ExtentGroupDataResiliencyAtRisk warning on the target cluster with the alert Message:

ExtentGroupDataResiliencyAtRisk warning: “cluster can tolerate a maximum of 0 node failure(s).”

Affected AOS versions:

  • 7.5
  • 7.3 and 7.3.x up to 7.3.1.2
  • 7.0 and 7.0.x up to 7.0.1.14
  • 6.10 and 6.10.x up to 6.10.1.14

Insights Discovery

  • Customers with Pulse enabled send telemetry to Nutanix Insights. Any cluster exposed to this issue will automatically create a Discovery Recommendation in the Nutanix Support Portal.
  • Look for Discovery D1-0133 — “Clusters with NearSync disaster recovery-protected entities may experience recovery failures and reduced data resiliency on the target cluster.” Check all Discoveries and follow the recommended actions.
  • If Pulse is not yet enabled, refer to the Prism Web Console Guide or Prism Central Admin Center Guide to turn it on.

How to check if you’re affected

  • To determine the AOS version of the clusters:
    • Log in to both source and target Prism Element. Confirm AOS version via Username → About Nutanix.
  • To determine if Autonomous NearSync is enabled:
    • SSH into any Source or Target Cluster Controller VM (CVM) as the nutanix user: ssh nutanix@cvm_ip_address
    • Run the NearSync parameter printer: nearsync_params_printer
    • If Autonomous NearSync is active, output appears with fields like pd_name, cg_name, and current_retention_time_mins.
  • No output means NearSync is not enabled and you are not affected.
